Aon accused of sexist behaviour

by Personnel Today 1 Oct 2004
by Personnel Today 1 Oct 2004

Sharon Horan, one of the country’s leading occupational health professionals, is suing private health care provider Aon Health Services for constructive dismissal, sex discrimination and equal pay.

Horan, previously nursing director, claims she suffered “a culture of sexist behaviour and treatment” that excluded women, a London tribunal heard last month.

Her experiences left her suffering from severe clinical depression, she said.

Horan alleged that male colleagues visited gay bars together, fostering a “male cabal” that excluded women.

She said that in April this year she was ommitted from a new organisation chart and the previous September had been excluded from senior management meetings, incidents that amounted to constructive dismissal.

A full hearing is due to be held in April next year.
