Weekly pay up by 4.2%

Median gross weekly earnings for all employees have increased by 4.2 per cent compared with official figures for the previous year.

Findings from the Office for National Statistics show that the gross weekly earnings for all employees stood at 328 in April 2004.

Median weekly pay for full-time staff now stands at 422. Women’s pay increased by more than men’s – 5.3 per cent compared with 3.8 per cent.

However, there is still a significant pay gap between the sexes, with full-time men earning a median salary of 24,236 a year, compared with 18,531 for full-time women.
