NHS to set up GP surgeries at major train stations

Commuters in England will soon be able to see a doctor on their way to or from work at surgeries based in major railway stations.

The NHS Walk-in Centres will be opened at London Liverpool Street, London Canary Wharf, London Kings Cross, London Victoria, Leeds (New Station Street), Manchester Piccadilly and Newcastle (Central Station) later this year.

The centres will open in the spring. Around £25m will be invested in the seven surgeries over the first three years.

Health minister John Hutton, said: “There is a real demand for medical centres at busy stations. People want an NHS that allows them to choose how, where and when they are treated.”
