Hat trick for refugee work campaign

Personnel Today’s ‘Refugees in Employment Campaign’ has been
awarded another prestigious publishing prize – the third in a row for the
groundbreaking editorial initiative.

The latest recognition came from the Periodical Publishers
Association and a panel of independent judges who voted the project ‘Campaign
of the Year’ beating off six other shortlisted magazines for the title.

Launched in June 2001, the campaign aims to help Government
and employers overcome obstacles to employing refugees and asylum-seekers. The
campaign included one of the few pieces of original research on the subject,
prompting the Government to carry out an audit of refugee skills and to develop
a strategy to get refugees working.

The PPA judges praised Personnel Today for its courage in
drawing attention to the issue and said: "This campaign represented a
unique stance… looking at refugees as a resource rather than a problem."

Last month, the campaign won an award from the Commission
for Racial Equality and last year earned the magazine the title Campaigner of
the Year from The Work Foundation’s Media Awards.
