Chancellor
Gordon Brown has called for a analysis of regional cost-of-living data to help
employers work out regional pay and conditions.
He
said a more considered approach could help recruitment and retention. Brown has
asked Christopher Allsop, who is leaving the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy
Committee in May, to carry out a review of the regional information.

Brown
said: "[The review] will help us address issues, provide greater impetus
to our objective of promoting economic growth in all regions and reduce the
persistent gap in growth rates between the richest and poorest areas of the
country."
