Firms
are reluctant to use e-learning as a training tool for their employees, a study
by the CIPD reveals.
A
survey of 502 training managers directors drawn from the CIPD membership
reveals only 153 are using e-learning as part of their training activities.
The
survey, Training and Development 2002, reveals that just 6 per cent of
respondents who utilise e-learning report that they use it ‘a lot of the time’.
Almost
70 per cent of those using e-learning use it only ‘a little’. This includes the
financial services, where e-learning is hardly used, even though most
staff have some basic IT skills.
The
survey defines e-learning as any learning tool carried out by connected
electronic technology, including over the Internet and intranets.

finds that e-learning is mostly used for IT training, other technical training
