Peugeot drives online training

Peugeot is to halve the number of days new staff spend in residential
training during the company’s sales induction course through the introduction
of e-learning.

From September, staff will be able to complete some training modules online,
enabling the car giant to cut the residential element of its sales induction
course from two weeks to one.

The eight online modules, including customer retention, telephone skills and
motor trade law, take less than an hour to complete and include an online test
that the employee must pass before progressing to residential-based role-play
training.

The £150,000 move to e-learning will also allow the company to schedule more
courses and reduce the number of staff on each course.

David Davies, sales and training manager at Peugeot, said that the
organisation will be providing dealers with support to deal with their new
people development responsibilities.

He said: "Our biggest challenge is to get dealers on board. It will be
strange for them that we (the training department) will not be directly
providing all the training or are not as heavily involved in upfront training
as we have been.

"It is a big change of emphasis for them to have to manage staff
development, provide the facilities and the time for staff to learn."
