Hung Parliament fears worry two-thirds of businesses

Nearly two thirds of firms are worried about a hung Parliament after the election, a survey has found.

A British Chambers of Commerce study found 65% of 300 firms were “concerned” or “very concerned” about the potential for their being no clear mandate if there is no overall majority at the polls, the BBC reported.

Just 13% thought that the outcome would be a “good thing”.

David Frost, BCC director-general, said: “Instinctively, companies prefer a clear mandate to lead and govern.

“With our economy still fragile and the public finances in a dire state, the overwhelming concern is whether a hung Parliament will provide decisive action around the UK’s unsustainable deficit.

“Whatever the outcome of the election, whether we have a coalition government or not, we must see a credible plan to reduce the deficit and restore confidence within 90 days.”
