Network Rail management and unions resume Acas meetings

Rail unions will meet Network Rail management today to resume talks aimed at averting a national strike.

The RMT union was forced to call off four days of planned industrial action last week after the High Court deemed its strike ballot illegal.

The organisations are to resume negotiations at conciliation service Acas in the row about job cuts and changes to working patterns for maintenance workers, the Guardian has reported.

If talks break down and the strike goes ahead, it will be the first national industrial action for 16 years.

Last week RMT general secretary Bob Crow said the dispute was very much alive. The union plans to hold separate talks aimed at discussing the signallers’ dispute, but no date has yet been set.
