Light at the end of the tunnel for Tube strikes threat

Union representatives meeting with Acas this morning have
confirmed press reports that they are willing to do a deal to prevent the next
two scheduled tube strikes.

Yesterday’s 24-hour tube strike by Aslef and RMT members was
the first of three Monday strikes over safety and working conditions and
brought the tube network to a standstill.

Union conditions include the setting up of a joint safety
body with union representation, no compulsory redundancies and promises that
workers will not be transferred between tube companies when the network is
split up.

“We are having meetings with London Underground managers
this week and if they meet our conditions then next week’s strike will be
avoided,” said an Aslef spokesperson.
