Pay gap between HR officers in London and the rest of the UK grows to 16%

The pay gap between personnel officers in London and the rest of the UK has increased by as much as 16% since 2002, according to a major survey on reward.


A study of more than 6,500 HR professionals, from Croner Reward, in association with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), found that personnel officers in London now earn £29,087 – 11% above the national average. Their counterparts in Northern Ireland, at £23,838, are the lowest paid in the UK.

Despite earning the most, personnel officers based in London report the lowest levels of satisfaction compared to those working in other regions â€“ just 37% rated their job satisfaction as good or excellent.


Charles Cotton, CIPD pay expert, said: “Regional pay variations will be influenced by the cost of living â€“ house prices and commuting â€“ and the mix of business activities in the different regions with the high-paying service sector and company headquarters predominant in London and the Home Counties.”
