Interim managers and employee relations specialists are still in demand, despite a drop in the number of jobs available to HR professionals, a recruitment firm has claimed.
The Monster Employment Index revealed demand for HR professionals had plummeted to its second lowest level in a year.
But a report, HR Market Update, by consultancy Robert Walters said that demand for generalists and employee relations specialists had softened the blow of an overall tough jobs market.
A drop in permanent roles was being balanced by an increase in the number of interim and fixed-term contracts as companies wait for the economy to stabilise, it said.

Darren Wentworth, director of HR recruitment at the firm, told Personnel Today: “There is still a demand for interims with experience in employee relations and restructuring which will likely run for the rest of the year.
“Organisations will have finished the first wave of their redundancies by the end of this month, and are expected to look at identifying and attracting key talent from competitors.”
