BBC HR director and two other executives to earn more than the prime minister

Salaries for three new BBC executives, including an HR director, are to exceed that of the prime minister.

Paul Gaskin, HR director for BBC North, will be paid £190,000, part of a package worth £197,900, while Simon Lloyd, director of marketing, communications and audiences for future media and technology, will receive a total of £167,800.

Basic pay for the corporation’s new chief creative officer, Pat Younge, will be £310,000 – more than double that of David Cameron who, as prime minister, is paid £142,500.

Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt said the BBC should not pay salaries in excess of the prime minister’s, but the government accepts it is unable to force the BBC to act on pay because of its independent status, the Times has reported.

A BBC spokesman said the corporation remained committed to cutting its senior management pay bill. Earlier this year, BBC reward director Robert Johnson apologised for attempting to manipulate salary information.
