British actors are threatening to strike this summer over
royalty payments.
Actors’ union Equity is in talks with UK film producers over
the lack of royalty payments for appearing in DVDs, videos and films.
A spokesman for Equity claimed it was having meeting with
film producers on Thurday to try to settle the dispute.
Equity’s Martin Brown said, “British performers don’t get a
percentage of the profits for appearing in videos or films unlike their US
counterparts. In the UK, actors are paid a flat fee in advance for television
broadcasts of films, for videos and DVD sales.”
He added, “We are telling members not to sign a new contract
if talks with the film producers break down.”
