Alan Johnson takes over as secretary of state for work and pensions

Higher
education minister Alan Johnson will take over as secretary of state for work
and pensions.

He
replaces Andrew Smith, following Smith’s surprise resignation on Tuesday.

The
cabinet reshuffle also saw the return of Alan Milburn, who resigned as health
secretary only 15 months ago..
