Alliance & Leicester job cuts will not affect HR department

Alliance & Leicester has confirmed that its jobs cull of 300 staff from its mortgage division and the back office area would not affect its HR department.

The mortgage lender, which currently employs 8,000 staff, has given people wishing to apply for voluntary redundancy until the end of March to do so. The jobs will be cut from May.

In October last year, Alliance & Leicester’s former HR director, Fiona Rodford, moved to airport operator BAA, leaving group secretary, Simon Lloyd, to take up the additional title of group HR director at the firm.

In February, Alliance & Leicester reported a 41% drop in full-year profits, and withdrew earnings expectations for 2008 and the following year.

A spokesperson said: “The voluntary redundancy scheme will not affect anyone in the HR department. The timescale is that people wishing to put in an application need to do so by the end of March, with the successful applicants being announced in May.”
