ATG training’s rescue plan for apprentices at risk of redundancy

by Personnel Today 18 Feb 2009
by Personnel Today 18 Feb 2009

A new support package accessed via Learning and Skills Council funding is now available for apprentices under 25 who want to complete an existing apprenticeship or switch to a new area to increase their employability.

Using this hardship package, leading vocational skills learning provider ATG Training, can offer young apprentices applying to their Buckinghamshire and Manchester training centres a guarantee that they will be able to finish their qualification whilst still earning an income.

Apprentices under threat of redundancy can access high quality vocational training plus cash support of up to £80 a week over a six-month period.

With ATG Training’s links with hundreds of employers and their track record of placing over 80% of apprentices in work on completion of their NVQs, a route back to employment looks much more certain.

Apprenticeships are a recognised pathway into work, providing structured learning programmes combining on the job learning, gaining qualifications and earning money – all at the same time.

Apprentices gain Key Skills qualifications as well as a technical qualification that provides valuable transferable skills

ATG’s breadth of vocational training means that apprentices have access to a wide range of opportunities including Building Services, Business and Administration, Children’s Care, Learning and Development, Contact Centre, Customer Service, Cycle Maintenance, Distribution Warehousing Operations, Engineering and Manufacturing, Health and Social Care, ICT and Management.

This initiative accompanies announcements by John Denham, Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), releasing about £140 million of extra funding for an additional 35,000 apprentices across the country in the next twelve months.

Commented Tony Edwards, Managing Director of ATG Training:

“With increased government investment and the new ‘Reaching Further’ CBI report, emphasising that workforce development is even more important during an economic downturn, it is important that the business community and learning providers work closely together.

“We have excellent links with employers and now with access to this additional funding we can supply skilled young workers to help organisations ride out the current economic recession.”
