Aurion Learning and FPA short-listed for Guardian Charity Award

by Personnel Today 28 Apr 2010
by Personnel Today 28 Apr 2010

Aurion Learning and the sexual health charity FPA are proud to announce that their innovative ‘All about us’ interactive CD-ROM has been short-listed for a prestigious Guardian Charity Award.

‘All about us’ designed specifically to educate people with moderate to medium learning disabilities about sex, relationships and sexual health, is believed to be the only resource of its kind in the world. Produced using words, pictures and storylines, it covers understanding emotions, keeping safe, what it means to become an adult and appropriate behaviour in public and private spaces in a way that people with learning difficulties find easy to understand. It complements relationships and sexuality education (RSE) in the home, school, and other learning environments. All about us can also be used by someone with learning disabilities on their own.

Speaking about the Award, Dr Audrey Simpson OBE, Director of FPA, Northern Ireland said: “We’re thrilled to receive this nomination. The Guardian Charity Awards showcases excellence and achievement so this is a huge honour and testament to partnership working. Using the ten years of specialist experience that FPA has in delivering RSE to people with learning disabilities in the community, and Aurion Learning’s technical expertise, we’ve been able to produce a unique resource that’s already been making a big difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities, their families and professionals working with them.”

Dr Maureen Murphy, Managing Director at Aurion Learning commented: “It was a challenge for us to present the learning content in a way that is sensitive, meaningful and fun for learners but we truly believe we have produced a ground-breaking and worthwhile piece of learning. “

The Guardian Charity Awards take place on 10 June 2010.

All about us costs £19.99 and is available from the FPA online shop.
