Global healthcare and chemicals company Bayer plc is installing a
company-wide e-learning system – provided by Global Knowledge – following
assessment by one of Global’s certified business partners, Trainers IT
Services.
Bayer was precise in the business objectives of the solution, which had to
fulfil the following criteria: to identify a skills gap – monitor existing
skills and build on them; offer sufficient flexibility to provide consistent
training to office and field staff; to save time by tailoring content
specifically to user requirements; maximise learning retention by providing a
post-course support tool; and assist users with the cultural move to e-learning
via mentoring and support.
"Besides meeting our training objectives, the services and products
proposed by Trainers IT Services ensured this solution could be used globally
by Bayer," said Karen Murphy, business development consultant at Bayer’s
internal consulting group, BBS. "This is especially pertinent given that
we wish to expand our e-learning programme to include our SAP, Siebel and Notes
applications."

A pilot project, introduced and managed by Trainers, looked at Bayer’s
infrastructure and cultural concerns and identified that a combination of
Global Knowledge’s web-based training product SPeLWEB and application support
tool OnDemand, plus Trainers’ own blended learning services, which includes
mentoring, would meet the objectives.
