Ease of administration is rightly a prime concern for employers when introducing childcare voucher schemes (‘Friend of the family’, Personnel Today, 17 June). But that is not to say, as the article implies, that the employer should choose a voucher supplier.

The best supplier will be the employer itself, paying the carer at the same time as it pays the employee. To run a scheme in-house requires no more effort than involvement with a voucher provider – and there is no need to give up a large part of the saving in national insurance.
