The British Army’s famous Brigade of Gurkhas is to start recruiting women.
Defence minister Derek Twigg said work was under way to see how Nepalese women could be integrated into the brigade. However, the Ministry of Defence said actual induction of women would not take place before 2010.

There are currently about 3,500 male Gurkha soldiers in the brigade. In March, Gurkhas gained the same terms and conditions of service as British and Commonwealth soldiers.
