BT and Deloitte among winners at race equality awards

by Mike Berry 22 Oct 2009

BT, Deloitte, the Home Office and MITIE were the winners at the annual Race for Opportunity awards for their commitment to race equality in the workplace.

A Business in the Community campaign, Race for Opportunity is a network of more than 160 private and public sector organisations working across the UK to promote the business case for race diversity in the workplace. The 2009 award categories celebrate various diversity practices from mentoring to supply chain diversity.

Presenting the awards, work and pensions secretary Yvette Cooper said: “The Race for Opportunity awards are a valuable way to showcase good business practices that are helping to drive forward diversity and equality in the workplace.

“Lots of employers do have good equality practices, and understand the business benefits of a diverse workforce. However, we know there is still unfair discrimination and ethnic minorities are still under-represented in the UK workforce, so it is crucial that we all keep working together to end such inequality.”
