BT is the first company to sign up to use the University for Industry’s
on-line training courses.
Courses in business management, customer care, retail and distribution and
IT will be available on the company’s internal intranet from the autumn when
UfI goes into national operation.
They will be run alongside BT’s own on-line training courses as part of the
BT Academy which was launched by DTI Secretary Stephen Byers last month.
BT said on-line courses will not replace all face-to-face and group teaching
but have the advantage that staff can learn at their own work stations at their
own pace.
BT’s chief executive Sir Peter Bonfield said, "Given the pace of
changes in technology and the hugely competitive markets BT operates in, we are
engaged in a constant battle to get and keep people with the skills and talent
to succeed.
