The Equal Opportunities Commission is urging local government employers to
take the lead in driving equality in the workplace.
Sheila Wilde, employment policy director at the EOC, told delegates at the
Socpo annual conference that the sector’s HR equality policies and practices
have fallen behind those of the private sector.
Launching, the Socpo equality CD-Rom, Wilde said: "Local government
always used to be at the forefront of equality practices.
"We used to always look to local government for best practice equality
case studies to show the private sector the way forward. Now, sadly, the
reverse is true. It is time it was put back into shape."
