HR practitioners want line managers to take more responsibility for
day-to-day tasks to free up their time to concentrate on strategic HR.
An IRS study of 118 employers found that 20 per cent want the department to
become more strategic, with respondents disappointed that only 10 per cent of
HR time is dedicated to strategic work, compared with their own target of 30
per cent.
However, the findings also show that strategic HR is far from the most
important HR issue. It was cited as the most vital issue by only 15 per cent of
organisations. Training and development was ranked the most important HR issue
by 30 per cent of the responding organisations.
