Catering firm Sodexho has used an innovative on-line recruitment campaign to
employ 1,000 catering staff for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester next
month.
Sodexho used an on-line advert asking: ‘Do you want to work at the
Commonwealth Games?’, which appeared in a pop-up window when students at
schools, colleges and universities in the North West logged on to campus
computers.
Students who clicked on to the window were directed to Sodexho’s recruitment
branch Prestige People’s website and an online application form.
Kaila Bell, operations director at Prestige People, estimates that 80 per
cent of the 1,200 positions were filled via the pop-up advertisements. She said
the positions are ideal for students so they were targeted for recruitment.
"It’s perfect for university students. They are finished in late June, and
the Games run from 24 July to 4 August," she said.
