The life of Brenda Slaney, occupational health tutor at the RCN from
1957-1984, was celebrated in June.
Many past and present occupational health nurses who had worked or trained
under Slaney attended, including Tess Hall-Patch (Fords) Jean Cowan (BA) and
Molly Harwood (NHS), as well as previous tutors, Marion Reed, Cynthia Atwell
and Mavis Gordon.
The celebrations were led by Margaret Green, retired principal of the RCN
Institute.
The event concluded with a buffet lunch, where people continued to share
their memories, and those who could not attend sent messages.
Brenda Slaney was a formidable lady who did so much to raise standards and
promote occupational health nursing practice and education. She worked as an OH
nurse for 37 years, 27 of which she spent at the RCN.
