The course is presented as a series of six study blocks between October and April. Most study blocks have a duration of three days (usually Wednesday – Friday). This is a dual-award course. Successful completion leads to the award of a CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice and a Nottingham Trent University Professional Certificate in Personnel Practice.
The course is open to all personnel and training practitioners and/or people whose jobs have a significant personnel content, or those wishing to move into the field of personnel. Due to the practical emphasis of the course, students must either already be in employment or be able to gain access to an organisation upon which they can base their assignments.
Topics covered on the course include: Induction & HRM in Context (3 days), Learning, Training & Development (3 days), Recruitment and Selection (3 days), Performance Management (3 days), Employee Relations (3 days) and Communications and Self-Management (2 days).
The Certificate in Personnel Practice/Professional Certificate in Personnel Practice lays the foundation for further professional development and leads to Associate Membership of the CIPD. It aims to provide skills training in many aspects of personnel practice, thus enabling students to enhance their contribution to their organisation and to promote their own development. Successful completion of the course to Merit standard overall with, in addition, the support of the Course Leader, may enable students to progress to the Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management; Human Resource Development; or Employee Relations.
