How long?
Delivered as a flexible learning programme, the whole scheme takes approximately three years to complete and comprises workshops and tutorials, supported by online facilities and direct access to tutors by telephone, email and fax. However, students don’t have to complete the full three years to achieve qualifications.
Entry requirements
The course is open access, so no formal qualifications are required.
Modules
The PDS is a Masters level qualification comprising of four fields – core management, people management and development, the electives, and the applied personnel and development field.
Those who undertake the four development electives will also be awarded the Advanced Professional Diploma in Managing Organisational Learning and Development, whilst successful completion of the employment law elective, an additional two day workshop and an additional assignment leads to the Advanced Professional Diploma in Employment Law. Students who complete either the core management, people management and development or the electives fields, plus the applied standards field will receive the Postgraduate Certificate in Personnel and Development from the CIPD. Students who complete the core management, people management and development, electives, and the applied standards fields will be also receive for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel and Development from the CIPD.

Career Opportunities
The course is suitable for HR, personnel and training officers/managers. The PDS provides the individual with in-depth development in relation to strategic and operational issues. The electives field allows the participant to gain specialist knowledge and skills relating to your particular job role or a role that they aspire to. The employment law elective provides essential understanding of an increasingly important area of work.
