A
former vice-president of the CIPD has hit back at criticisms that its
professional qualifications are out of touch with the needs of the business
world.
Bob
Morton, head of HRD at CIBA Specialty Chemicals, gives a robust defence of the qualifications
and the status of the institute in this week’s Personnel Today.
The
recently reviewed qualification scheme articulates what it takes to be a
“thinking performer”, he says. “They are about business management, not
textbook approaches”.
Morton
was responding to criticism from senior partner at Personnel Works Paul Kearns
(Comment, 13 March), who called for drastic action at “sleepy hollow”, as he
called the CIPD’s headquarters.
