The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) has warned that Conservative plans to privatise public services and to cut nearly a quarter of million civil servants would devastate public services.
The Conservatives said the cuts would come as part of their plan to make £35bn in savings in the public sector by tackling waste.
Mark Serwotka, PCS general secretary, said that it would be ludicrous to think that cuts on the scale proposed by the Conservatives would not damage services .
“We have a worrying political consensus emerging that believes you can axe thousands of civil and public service jobs without it having a negative impact on service delivery,” he said.
