The
Chartered Management Institute (CMI) is launching a new programme to help
graduates adjust to the workplace.
The
scheme, run in partnership with Year in Industry, introduces gap-year students
to management skills including team leadership, information handling and
project supervision techniques.
Successful
participants will be awarded a Level 3 Certificate in management.
The
initiative comes after research by the CMI found that almost half of HR
managers thought graduates were increasingly ill-prepared for the workplace.
Christine
Hayhurst, director of professional affairs at the CMI, said: "Many
university-leavers enter the marketplace without transferring classroom
confidence into practical business skills."

"By
partnering with Year in Industry, the institute aims to link the needs of
business with the drive for quality entrants into the UK jobs market," she
said.
