The
majority of employers are unaware of new rules prohibiting staff using mobile
phones while driving.
Some
82 per cent of employers polled by law firm Peninsula were not aware of the new
law, which forbids workers holding a mobile phone while driving.
Despite
this the majority of employers welcomed the move.
The
survey found that 73 per cent of employers would encourage staff to use a
hands-free kit if they needed to make a call while driving.
Meanwhile,
77 per cent of organisations said they would consider changing employment
contracts to stipulate that driving while using a mobile phone is not
permitted.
