Working for a dotcom business does not guarantee greater financial rewards than a job in the old economy.
E-businesses offer similar salaries to other companies and the number with share plans is also comparable, says a report on directors’ remuneration on flotation from consultants Arthur Andersen.
Dotcom millionaires and large payouts can be attributed instead to the exponential share price growth shown until recently by some dotcoms. But in this respect too they are no different from other start-up businesses, it says.

The report outlines the remuneration issues companies should consider when planning a flotation. It found just under half of those surveyed had a share option plan in place at the time of flotation and that these were slightly more common in dotcoms.
