Downturn in semiconductor market could cost 1,500 IBM jobs

Computer
manufacturing giant IBM could be about to shed as many as 1,500 jobs because of
the slump in demand for semiconductors.

According
to reports in The Times newspaper, the firm will make the cuts across its
chip-making operation despite investing almost £3.4bn in the division only  two years ago.

IBM
said it remained committed to the semiconductor market but the sector was in a
severe downturn.
