Former CIPD assistant director-general Duncan Brown is to join the Institute for Employment Studies (IES) next month.
Brown joins as director of HR business development after two years at professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. His focus will be to help grow the HR research and consultancy side of IES, as well as lead its work on reward and performance management.

He has more than 15 years’ experience in performance and reward consulting work. Prior to PwC and the CIPD, Brown was a partner with international management consultants Towers Perrin, advising organisations including GSK, the Cabinet Office and the United Nations.
Commenting on his appointment, Brown said: “It is a critical time for HR teams across the country. The current climate forces organisations to focus on HR that makes a real difference, in lieu of management jargon or unproven concepts. HR teams need to understand what their business is about and how they will survive.”
