The
Church of England is set to award its vicars a range of employment rights for
the first time in its history.
The
church has published a set of proposals that could see vicars given the right
to redundancy payments and holidays.
According
to reports by the BBC some priests will also be entitled to legal protection
from unfair dismissal.

Traditionally
the clergy has been exempt from employment rights because they are deemed
office holders not employees, and as such are working for God rather than an
earthly organisation.
