Engineering holds on to strong growth

All eight job sectors showed an increased demand for temporary/contract workers in January 2006, according to the NTC Economics monthly Report on Jobs survey.

Engineering/construction showed the strongest growth, up two points from the previous year. And secretarial/clerical registered a significant rise from January 2005, followed closely by accounting/financial.

The other sectors, including executive/professional, IT and computing, nursing/medical/care and hotel and catering remained buoyant, but fell slightly from the previous year.

As with permanent staff, blue collar was the weakest sector and showed the largest drop, at 8.1 points on the year.
