European
MPs have awarded themselves a 30 per cent pay rise and have maintained their
perks of office.
Pay
for British MEPs will now increase to £72,000 as part of a new scheme to
harmonise the salaries of MEPs, regardless of the wealth of the country they
represent.

MEPs
will also receive a tax-free sum of
£180,000 for staff expenses, and a further £32,000 for general expenses.
