Face-to-face
interviews are the most effective way to recruit skilled staff, according to a
report.
Despite
an increase in the use of assessment centres and tests to determine the skills
of job applicants, employers still believe that face-to-face interviews are
best.
A
poll of more than 100 UK firms by IRS Employment Review shows that 44 per cent
of companies claim that face-to-face interviews are the single most effective
method of selecting the right candidate for a skilled vacancy.
The
percentage is almost four times more than the 12 per cent who find that testing
candidates specific skills and abilities is the best recruitment approach.
Application
forms, predominately used as a sifting device by HR professionals, surprisingly
only came third with 11 per cent, while assessment centres received just
one-tenth of the vote. www.irsemploymentreview.com
