The Faculty of Occupational Medicine has outlined major changes to its higher specialist training programme over the next three years.
Training in occupational medicine will become competency based and will be evaluated by a combination of workplace-based assessments and a new examination system, starting from the August 2007 intake.
The acquisition of competencies, rather than completion of a period of training, will be the goal, the faculty added.

Doctors who can demonstrate appropriate competencies – including doctors who have completed GP training -will no longer have to start from scratch.
