The most common reason for disappointment was the relationship with the new boss. This was cited by 77 per cent of ill-prepared appointees. The degree of autonomy in their work was an issue for just under seven in 10, while 54 per cent were unhappy about their relationships with their new colleagues. Induction planning was mentioned by 38 per cent as a cause for concern. Disappointment was much lower in all areas for those who had prepared themselves, the study of 247 people in leadership roles across industry sectors found.
