People 1st, the new sector skills council (SSC) for the
hospitality industry, is calling on employers in the sector to work with
it in addressing its skills shortage.
Simon Turl, chief executive of People 1st, told Personnel
Today that he hoped 10,000 employers would register their interest with the SSC
in the next six months so that the body could tell the Government, schools and
colleges the sector’s future skills needs.
"We are trying to forecast future skills requirements, and we need
[employers] to help. Tell us what you need in three to five years time as your
‘oven-ready’ product coming out of college or school," he said. "Then
we can start to amend the delivery processes that provide that product."
