The Fire
Brigades’ Union has voted 9-1 to strike over pay. The strikes will be held from
29 to 31 October.
The strikes
will begin at 9am on Tuesday and end 48 hours later.
Charles Nolda,
executive director of the Employers’ Organisation – which conducts the pay
negotiations on behave of local authorities, told PersonnelToday.com: "The
strike is quite unjustified. The government have acted on our recommendation to
implement a review of pay and conditions. We offered 4 per cent which is a bit
more than most authorities could afford.
"I
think that they [the union] do not want a pay review as they are confident in
their case.
"I
fear a higher death rate than normal – which was not the case in the last
strike"
