Flexible working countdown: 10 – When do the rules change?

With just 10 working days to go until the introduction of new flexible working legislation, we look at the new rules regarding the right to request flexible working. First off, when do the rules change?

Flexible working on XpertHR

Decide the organisation’s stance on flexible working

Legal timetable: Right to request flexible working extended to all employees

The new rules are effective from 30 June 2014. This means that all applications to work flexibly that are received on or after 30 June must be dealt with under the new procedure.

Where one employee submits an application to work flexibly on 29 June, while another from the same team submits their application on 30 June, the employer will need to explain to each employee that the new rules apply to applications made on or after 30 June.

The new rules will not apply to the employee who submitted their application on 29 June (the old rules will apply).
