Baggage
handlers at 17 UK airports are set for crisis talks with bosses today after
voting to strike over pay.
Members
of the Transport and General Workers Union employed by services group Aviance
backed a strike in protest at a 2.5 per cent pay offer.
The
two sides will meet at Aviance’s Gatwick offices this morning to try to avoid a
walkout.
The
union said members had voted for full industrial action, but no dates had yet
been set for strikes. Any action would affect most major airlines and airports,
including Gatwick and Heathrow.
