Football fever cost UK economy £390m

World Cup sick days cost the UK
economy £391m, financial experts claim.

Barclaycard’s Premiership
website 4thegame.com surveyed 4,000 fans
and found that 39 per cent admitted taking at least one day off work to follow
their team.

The loss figure was calculated
as a percentage of the country’s six million fans earning the average daily
wage of £66.

However, earlier loss
predictions were far higher. In January, experts claimed the economy would lose
£3.2bn.
