The
renewable energy industry is set to generate thousands of jobs, especially in
the ailing manufacturing industry, according to a new report.
The
Renewables Supply Chain Gap Analysis claims renewable energy could reap
significant economic and social benefits for the UK, with 8,000 jobs already sustained by the
industry.
This
is set to climb to 17,000-35,000 UK jobs by 2020.
Energy
minister Stephen Timms said renewable energy offered a huge opportunity to
enhance Britain’s manufacturing capacity and provide new employment,
particularly in remote areas.
The
renewable energy technologies reviewed included wind (onshore and offshore),
wave, tidal and hydro.
