The Scottish arm of Macmillan Cancer Relief will launch an information campaign for employers across the UK in April 2007, which will specifically target HR departments.
The charity has teamed up with cancer coach Ginny Fraser to produce a set of guidelines for UK employers on dealing with the issues surrounding the disease.
The ‘Cancer in the Workplace’ campaign will include details on best practice and treatments, and will provide DVDs with actors role-playing difficult scenarios.
Macmillan Cancer Relief Scotland started receiving funding for the project through the Scottish Executive and NHS Health Scotland in April 2005.
Lesley Munro, information consultant at the charity, said the aim was to offer practical advice to HR departments and raise awareness.
“Employers have a role to play in supporting employees through cancer. We hope to provide a resource to help them do this,” she said.
