The Trade and Industry Secretary was due to call for a partnership approach
to tackling the productivity gap at the annual Trades Union Congress in
Brighton.
As Personnel Today went to press, Patricia Hewitt was expected to reassure
the unions that the Government will work with them and business leaders to
raise the productivity of the UK workforce.
She will also claim that the Government understands the difficulties that
manufacturers are facing and is listening to unions, representative bodies and
employers on the best ways to support the sector.
